UP to 800 cyclists will be pedalling from Guildford to Shoreham next month in the annual Downs Link bike ride.
The group will be raising money for Cancer Research UK. The event, on September 21, starts at Bramley, near Guildford, and winds its way through 31 miles of countryside through Surrey and West Sussex, to finish at Shoreham.
Along a former railwa
y line, the route is mostly off-road, on rough-surfaced tracks.
There are marshals to help riders on their way and the route is supported with drinks stops, medical support and bike mechanics in case of any breakdowns.
Andy Haymes, event organiser, said: "The Downs Link bike ride is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year for cyclists and families alike.
"It offers a unique opportunity to cycle through some fantastic scenery and raise money for a worthwhile cause.
"In previous rides, many participants have been cancer survivors and people who have lost loved ones to the disease.
"At the end of the ride, there is a carnival atmosphere, with entertainment, refreshments, and T-shirts and certificates for the riders."
Individual entry costs £12 in advance (14 years and above). Children under 14 are £5, or £20 on the day (all ages).
The fee covers the cost of staging the event and ensures that Cancer Research UK benefits directly from every penny raised through sponsorship. There is also a small charge for transport if required.
