AN OPEN day, will be held at Rustington Youth Centre on September 6 to show off what is on offer, including its new kit.
Members of the Woodlands Avenue centre have successfully bid for Youth Opportunity Funding to buy new DJ decks and equipment, a karaoke machine and a Nintendo WII computer games console.
Cherry Harris, Neighbourhood Youth Worker, said: "The aim of
the centre is to offer young people a safe environment – one where they can enjoy a wide range of activities or simply meet up and chill out with their mates."
The new equipment is added to existing facilities, including pool tables, computers, dance mats and an outdoor multi-sports area.
She added that the centre was run by qualified and experienced staff, with control of entry, and parents and carers were welcome to come and have a look round and meet the youth workers.
"It is a place where young people are encouraged to have their say," she said.
"We're also offering young people the chance to get out and about and visit popular attractions. Some members, for example, have just had a great weekend away staying overnight at Alton Towers."
The centre also helps youngsters to get involved in community volunteering, and to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Pat Arculus, West Sussex County Council cabinet member for children and young people's services, said the centre and its members were to be congratulated for providing local youth with an attractive focal point.
"It is a place where everyone is working together to provide the community with a valuable asset."
It is open term between 7pm and 9pm on Mondays and Thursdays. Entry costs £1.
The open day will be held between 11am and 3pm.
