RESIDENTS in Ashington and East Worthing are preparing to stage their annual festivals this weekend.
Ashington Festival and East Worthing Festival will take place on Saturday — with both offering lots of fun for the whole family.

Ashington Festival will be bigger than ever, starting with a large carnival procession at 1.30pm from the village's
top roundabout.

It will be led by residents David Alford and Alan Kenny in costume and carrying the Ashington Carnival banner, closely followed by The Medina Band, the carnival princess, Daisy Kool, 10, her two attendants, Lauren Irwin and Lydia Allam, both eight, and pageboys Matthew May, nine, and Alex Pegler, six.

There will be colourful floats, bands, a majorette troop, vintage vehicles, clowns and more.

The festival will be held at 2.30pm on Ashington Recreation Ground, Church Lane, after the arrival of the procession.

There will be arena events, including Jez Avery with his mountain bike and motorcycle stunt show, the South Coast Zodiacs will do a dance routine, the Medina Band will be marching in the arena and Rondo the clown will be there with lots of children's entertainment.

In the community centre, there will be a flower show.

On the recreation ground, also expect to see the Harris Brothers' fun fair, a car boot sale, laser dome, clowns and sideshows, craft and charity stalls, dog agility assault course, a giant slide, assault course, bouncy castle and a moonwalker rocket.

Nearby, an American and British classic, hot rod and custom car show will be staged. And there will be lots more, including a fun dog show.

In the evening, live band The Gangsters will be playing music through the decades. And, at 10pm, there will be a firework display and a pig roast. The day will end at 11.45pm.

A DVD will be made of the event. Anyone interested in a copy of the DVD, or for more details about being part of the event, should contact Margaret on 01903 892633 or visit the special website www.ashingtonfestival.co.uk

In East Worthing, the annual festival will take place from 2pm in Homefield Park and will be officially opened by the mayor, Christine Brown.

Events on the day will include a large car boot sale, bouncy castles, children's rides, a small petting zoo, games, a barbecue and arena events.
