LITTLE BOOKS: I was somewhat horrified to get a letter from the Lewes Town and Country B&B Group of which I have been a member since it started, to find that they are no longer printing their wonderful little books advertising local B&B's. I get about five people a week telling me that they found me in this little book and they also tell me how impressed they are with it. A friend of mine, who does B&B in Denton and who appeared on TV recently, gets a lot of business from this form of advertising as she leaves the books in the port etc., so that people coming off the boats know where they can get a night's B&B at a reasonable price. Let's face it, they don't bring their computers with them, so can't look on-line and as I've said many times, so many of the older generation do not or will not use computers and prefer to have contact with people and have a book on hand. I aim to keep some books in-hand, be they out of date. I will tell people that they are no longer printed but at least they can find accommodation in them and negotiate the prices, which will of course go up over the years. It's understandable that the group finds it expensive to have these printed and also to get people to drop them off in appropriate places. In this area I leave them at our pub, Monks House, at the village hall and in a container outside my house. I find they go quite quickly and are especially valuable for walkers on the South Downs Way. As I am busy all the time, without having a website, I can't say that I'm terribly worried but it does seem a shame that these little books are going to disappear. I did have one person ask me if I could write a little book to take its place, if only I could find the time.
