Say ‘no’ to new Co-op store in Pevensey Bay
Worryingly, plans have been submitted to convert part of the 130-year-old Bay Hotel in Pevensey Bay into a Co-op convenience store.
The bar and restaurant in the historic landmark will be gutted.

The family-run businesses are popular and much-valued by local residents and visitors.
During Covid-19 they have gone above and beyond supporting local people.
As a national chain the Co-op – which thrives on its community-driven ethos – has purchasing power to undercut prices, so threatening livelihoods and businesses built up through sheer hard work.

Another convenience store will not greatly benefit the local community and tourists as claimed in the plans.
We should be protecting local businesses and jobs, our community and heritage assets and improving road safety.
Pevensey Bay attracts its many visitors UK-wide and from abroad because of its unique charm and character – let’s keep it that way.
