LETTER: Noble gestures from leadership
Were all council members aware that Cllrs Dawe and Croft and their gang were making these generous offers – all to show the Inspector what dutiful citizens they are in their ‘duty to co-operate’?
Mr Baker’s recent letter mentioned Reigate and Banstead Borough Council as recipients of this largesse at our expense. I found another example from Reigate & Banstead’s submission to the consultation (Ms Cath Rose, Pro Sub 2885, Chapter 8: Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation): ‘Reigate & Banstead Borough Council undertook a Traveller Accommodation Assessment (TAA) in 2013, and is currently in the process of updating that study. Whilst we are committed to meeting our identified needs as far as possible, we have not yet been able to conclude whether sites can be allocated to meet the full need identified within the TAA without compromising

Hide Adthe purposes or integrity of the Green Belt. We will keep you informed of our work on this matter through our existing joint working arrangements. To allow for sufficient gypsy and traveller provision across a wider area, we would suggest that the final Paragraph of Policy 21 is amended to make reference to joint working, not only in relation to transit and temporary stopping places, but also permanent site provision’.
What a noble gesture on the part of Cllrs Dawe and Croft – presumably they will be telling the Inspector that they will be allocating land in their wards (Storrington and Roffey respectively) for large gypsy and traveller settlements?
