I was lucky enough to go to the USA in 1969 with the train on a trade show with Alan Pegler, the then owner.
Unfortunately, the train was two hours late so I was stuck at Victoria station for a couple of hours before she came chugging round the corner - it brought back happy memories.

Hide AdMy stay at the station was particularly interesting. All the many staff I came across were smiley and polite but not very well-informed.
The security, except for a message on a loop about not leaving anything unattended, was noticeable in its absence. I went on and off platforms with ease, which to be honest I found a little disconcerting.
There is an article regarding the USA tour on the steamlibrary website and in the book Adventures with my Passport on Amazon.
