MOUNTFIELD PARISH COUNCIL: The first Parish Council meeting of the new Council meets on Tuesday May 19th at 7.30. In addition to our two new parish councillors, John Snuggs and Steve Rickman-Smith, our district councillor, Eleanor Kirby Green, will be there having been confirmed in the rôle at the election last week. The format is the same as usual. There are always a few brief formalities including the election of the chair and vice chair for the following year. This is followed by a short adjournment to allow reports from our district and county councillors and the opportunity for anyone to raise any issues briefly. Finally the meeting recommences for the councillors to discuss the agenda; no contributions from anyone other than the clerk and councillors are allowed during this main part of the meeting. Agenda items this time include the siting of the first two defibrillators purchased by MPC, possible restoration of the Twitten, and the state of Riverhall Bridge. All welcome.

MOUNTFIELD CLUB: Congratulations to the Club’s snooker team who, lead by captain Steve Smith, collected the Division Three winners’ shields at the Snooker League’s annual presention night hosted this year at the Rainbow Trout pub in Brede. Also collecting their trophies from the Club were Kevin Gray, Colin Elms and Pete Last. Kevin also picked up the award for the most wins in Division Three with 19 wins.
We thought we would be able to get more details of the evening from Dave “the post” Wadeson but when we asked him, for some reason he couldn’t remember much about it. Must be getting forgetful.
Club member and committee member Denis smith is celebrating 50 years of cycling around Mountfield on his bicycle — a fine feat — and we looking forward to seeing Dennis cycling for many more years to come. The Club’s annual darts and shove tournaments are due to be played on Saturday May 30th. More information will follow shortly.

Hide AdMOUNTFIELD UNITED: Commiserations to the football club who narrowly missed out on promotion from Division One to the Premier League of the East Sussex football league. In case you missed it, there was a full page report and picture on the back of last week’s Battle Observer with the headline “United Miss Out On Last Day”. Oh, and in the background of the photo you can see, quite unmistakably, the cast of Last of the Summer Wine standing on the touchline. From left to right, Norm (Dave Weekes), Compo in his wellies (Mike Tapsfield) and Foggy (Mick Wood).
FINALLY: As ever, if you have anything for the Village Voice, we can be contacted on 880614 or via [email protected].
