Lightsabers at the ready during Littlehampton pool ‘battle’
And instead of the realms of outer space, it was fought on the green baize of a pool table in a Littlehampton pub.
Even so, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, a Jawa and various other characters took aim in a Star Wars-themed 24-hour pool marathon at the White Hart in Surrey Street from Saturday morning (May 4).

It was organised by Richard Milburn (Darth Maul) and Jeff Roddis (Darth Vader) on behalf of the Littlehampton District World Rules Pool League.
Both are members of the White Hart’s pool teams and were joined by other members and other players from the league, as about 300 people attended the event from start to finish – with a tombola, a raffle, disco and karaoke to entertain them when interest in the pool waned.
Jeff, Richard and his step-son Dan Wood (a Jawa) stayed the full 24 hours.

Saturday’s date, May 4th, is a special one for Star Wars enthusiasts such as Richard – and it was also his 43rd birthday.
