Arun to build first new council homes in 20 years

New council houses will be built in Wick, Bognor Regis and Barnham after council leaders rubber stamped plans worth a total of £5m.

Arun District Council’s cabinet approved the building of 22 council houses in Wick, two four-bedroom houses in Bognor, while also agreeing to purchase nine new homes in Barnham.

It will be the first time new council houses have been built in the Arun district for 20 years.

At the special cabinet meeting on Monday night, cllr Roger Elkins, cabinet member for housing, said: “I’m very supportive of these plans and I’m pleased the contract details have come within budget so we can now move forward and provide much-needed council housing.

“Arun has not had the opportunity to provide council houses for some 20 years and these contracts will provide significant improvements to the Wick, Barnham and Bognor areas.”

Cabinet members unanimously approved the awarding of a £3.9m contract to an unnamed contractor to build 22 council houses in Wick, and two in Bognor.

The two four-bedroom semi-detached houses in Bognor will be built at the back of Glenlogie, a hostel for homeless people in Clarence Road.
