'Landgirls' get their medals

'LANDGIRLS' who tended the fields as the men went to war in World War Two have finally received medals to recognise their efforts.
One group of the veterans from the Women's Land Army and Women's Timber Corps, who gather each month for a lunch in Southwater, celebrated receiving the medals.
Audrey Broad, who served in the Women's Timber Corps near Southwater, said: "We're absolutely delighted that we've got them - It's taken 60 years to get some recognition."
There were a total of around 100,000 landgirls.
