Top scores for students in International Baccalaureate

Eighteen students at Christ’s Hospital School took the IB, averaging a score of 37 points out of a possible 45, which is equivalent to three A*s and two As at A-Level. Lucy Hindmarsh and David Reckers came top of the pile with scores of 42, while Ulrika Breme and Esther Sorooshian gained 41 points each and Tony Lam and Safia Sangster earning 40 points. A spokesman for Christ’s Hospital said one-third of the 18 entrants achieved 40 points or above and all gained grades “that reflect their resilience and hard work on this demanding academic course”. The IB is made up of six subject groups, including maths, language, science and art, as well as Theory of Knowledge, an essay of 4,000 words and Creativity, Activity and Service. This was the third year Christ’s Hospital had taken on the course, which the spokesman said had gone from “strength to strength”, running alongside the A-Level courses. Headmaster John Franklin said: “I am really proud of our pupils and teachers on a superb set of IB results. All of the pupils on the IB course gained their diploma with some impressively high scores. “The breadth and depth of the IB, along with its international focus and mathematical and scientific element makes this a demanding course and our Year 13 IB leavers have a qualification regarded as an outstanding preparation for study at university and beyond.” The students are now preparing to attend university at destinations including: Imperial, King’s College, UCL, Bonn, Durham, Warwick, Heidelberg, Maastricht, Leeds, Exeter and the Free University of Berlin to read English, engineering (biomedical and electronic), classics, medicine, economics, mathematics or philosophy.
