Car engine blaze on M23

FIREFIGHTERS rescued motorists stranded on the hard shoulder of the M23 after their engine burst into flames.
Two people in a Volkswagen Polo, escaped unharmed after their engine started smoking as they headed south past Junction 10 of the M23 today (Thursday).
Just after 12.20pm the pair pulled their smoking Polo over to the side of the motorway just in time to see it burst in to flames.
Horley fire station sent two appliances to the scene and firefighters used two hose reels to douse the flames that tore through the stricken car.
Both passenger and driver were unharmed.
A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "We arrived to find all occupants of the vehicle outside and safe but there was an established fire in the engine block.
"Two appliances attended the scene and crews used two hose reels to extinguish the flames."
